Happy 3rd Birthday

Our oldest little boy turned three today, and it has been quite a 24 hours. We've been keeping track of when his birthday was for the past three weeks. We made a birthday chart (along the lines of a potty chart where you put a sticker on for each day) because he was convinced that his birthday was Friday. We have been so excited each morning after breakfast to put our Cars sticker on the day.

Last night we invited some of his best friends over to have cake and ice cream. He picked the birthday cake—a green dinosaur one like he requested, which he called a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Although we have been practicing blowing for weeks, he got shy of the candles and would barely blow. He kept telling me and my husband, "You do it." With my husband surreptitiously blowing from the side and me blowing from behind the camera (and one of my son's older friends trying his best to help from the side without his mom catching him) we finally got all three candles out and we had a fun time, but he got to bed later than normal (and he didn't get a nap; he was too excited).

Today we started with candles on his waffles and then opened all of the presents. He loved everything. He didn't quite catch how to open presents on the first one, but by the end, he had it down. He wasn't ready to stop playing and go to church, and when he finally agreed to go, he wanted to take his presents with him.

After quiet time (again no naps), he said, "I'm so hungry."

"You can have crackers with cheese or some vegetables."

"I want ice cream."

"You can have crackers with cheese or some vegetables."

"But it's my birthday."

Inside I was laughing, but I was firm: "You can have crackers with cheese or some vegetables."

He decided to have some juice. He didn't get ice cream until after he'd eaten all his cold beans (aka "logs") at dinner. He didn't want the macaroni and cheese

With friends and family calling (I'm glad they did), and my husband at church meetings until 9:00 tonight (but they only have meetings like this once a month), he ended up going to sleep too late again, but I figure, you only get a birthday once a year. Why not let things go a little crazy one day, and bring everything back to normal tomorrow.
